How my journey began

A photo of a woman with purple hair looking up at her mortarboard with the Chinese character 福 (blessed). She is wearing a dusty green dress with a mandarin collar, with stoles and cord that represents her identity and accomplishments as an international student of color graduating Summa Cum Laude from business school.

Hi! My name is Xin Yi (she/her/hers).

I come from the sunny island of Singapore. Before arriving in the United States, I had a lot of questions unanswered. No matter where I was or what I did, I never felt like I belonged. It was not until I came here that I found the language for what I was experiencing.

It wasn’t unfairness, it was systemic inequities.

I wasn’t being a “troublemaker”; I was being a truth-seeker.

I didn’t experience what I did because “life is unfair”;

I experienced what I did because

people made life unfair.

Now, I dedicate my time to advancing equity in the workplace intersectionally.
